Sept. 8th, 2009 Release, "The Last Song," by Nicholas Sparks

Hey all you Nicholas Sparks fans!

The novel, “The Last Song” on which Disney’s film script of is based was released on Sept. 8th. Author, Nicholas Sparks will be in Savannah on Sunday, Sept. 13th for an official book signing at Books-A-Million on Abercorn from 2:00pm - 5:00pm.

For your convenience, our Tybee bookseller, Seaside Sisters has also arranged with the publisher to have officially ‘autographed’ copies available for those who don’t wish to travel to Savannah or wait in lines, but you must order your book by Sept. 12th! They can also ship a copy directly to you, so stop by the shop at 1207 US Hwy. 80 E., Sundance Square on Tybee to order, or call 912-786-9216, asap!

The Tybee Times will be interviewing Mr. Sparks prior to the book signing, and presenting him with a "Tybee Treasure Chest" filled with symbolic memorabilia - merchants’ gifts, branding items from local businesses and organizations, and other mementos.  Sparks had never heard of Tybee Island when Disney asked him to write us into his movie script, so we thought this would be a way to show appreciation and further promote our community and its wonderful people.

We will be picking up items on Sept. 10th and 11th, so please let us know if you have something to contribute - many have called already.  Nicholas Sparks has quite a following among local readers so spread the word. By the way, the book is awesome...

During the filming of The Last Song on Tybee we featured special news and stories of interest about the Disney producers, cast and crew, and locals involved in the process, and began where it all started - with Nicholas Sparks, author of the novel from which Miley Cyrus' character and the screen version of The Last Song is crafted.

The Last Song, Sparks' fifth novel to be made into a major movie will be released on January 8th, 2010. Sparks is a devoted family man with five children, who works out and runs track. He says he met his wife on spring break from NotreDame years ago, and it was love at first sight! He also takes time out from his prolific writing schedule to make sure kids in his home town get the support they need to succeed!

Quote: "Millions know Nicholas Sparks as the best-selling author of books like Message in a Bottle, A Walk to Remember,  and The Notebook.  But in New Bern, North Carolina, the novelist is better known as benefactor and coach of a track program that has rapidly become one of the nation's finest."
