I have been visiting Tybee since a child. My great Aunt Gracie Khulman and her husband Fred lived on Jones and 2nd for many years. Gracie shared her love of Tybee with her family which is why I still visit as often as I can.

While my husband and I were there in late July, I noticed many rules being ignored. There were fishermen catching sharks, gutting them on the beach and keeping them for food. The same visitors were trashing the beach with cigarette butts. There were glass containers noticed by city employees but no ticket was written.

I would like to see the city enforce the "stiff fines" as stated in the public notice. I love Tybee and want all visitors to treat it with respect.

We look forward to returning Labor Day!

From a lifelong resident's perspective:

Without Tybee businesses where would many of the residents be today? Most people do not realize that without the the business community that has survived for decades on this wonderful island, that many of the lifelong residents wouldn't have been able to survive either. Businesses on Tybee should be supported by all whom live here. They pay many of the residents salaries, they support the causes that are here, they collect taxes (local option) that the city recieves part of to help its budget, they pay property taxes that are as high or not higher than the residential side of the island that also goes to support the city budget. The business owners help more individuals than any one may ever know when folks are in need. Tybees business community is in all the backbone of the entire island.Residents that do not support Tybee Businesses are not supporting Tybee as a whole.

Chantel is doing a great job and has benefited many in the business community so far. She should be applauded and supported by all!!! it has been a long time since we have had a governing body that does support local businesses. They to should be applauded. Those whom think Tybee should be a gated community should look back at their thoughts and realize just how vital the business community really is to all whom live here!Think twice before you tax yourselves out of paradise and have to drive off the island to make aliving and get anything you may need be it food gas or what ever! I remeber well when we did not have a grocery store for 18 months.Would you want to take your gas can to work with you so you could cut grass when you grt home or have to drive back to wilmington to get it?

Wake up and smell the roses!!!! Support your local businesses and pray that they grow to better serve you all!!!
